As I said earlier, bed ulcers result from pressure against the skin and can be further aggravated by limited movement.
To prevent pressure ulcers, you need to minimize pressure on the skin and encourage movement whenever possible.
If you are bed-ridden, shifting your weight every 1-2 hours can help improve blood flow and reduce the likelihood of bedsores. If you can’t do this on your own, ask for some help.
Also, avoid elevating your bed to more than 30 degrees at the head to avoid shearing- this happens if you slide down the bed, causing the skin on your tailbone to pull in the opposite direction and resulting in skin injury.
