BedtimeSpecialist.com - Helping you sleep at night

Today I review the best priced mattresses for the year, I also take a look at what you get for your money, divided into price ranges.

We spend almost a third of our lives sleeping, so finding a mattress that is right for your body can be tricky.

It can be very intimidating buying a mattress.

Some people like it firm, others soft.

You now have memory foam, gel memory foam, spring coils, hybrid mattresses, with many different companies clamoring for your business, and using fancy abbreviations and big words to make it sound like their mattresses are from the future.

And whatever choice you make, you’re stuck with that choice for the next few years, sleeping on something that is potentially giving you a bad back or a sore neck.

In short, you want the best mattress with the best price!

Luckily I’m here to help.

I’ve done all the research and answered as many questions as possible to help you make an informed choice that fits your body and your budget.

Let’s get started.

Don’t miss my guide on what to consider when buying a new mattress or bed.

The Best Price Mattresses I Will Be Reviewing Today

A Guide To The Best Price Mattress Deals | Bedtime Specialist

What should I look for when buying a mattress?

Don’t miss my guide on what to consider when buying a new mattress or bed.

You want a mattress that supports your spine no matter which position you lie in.

If the mattress is too soft, your back will arch the wrong way when you lie on your stomach.

If the mattress is too firm, your shoulder will start to hurt if you sleep on your side.

After reviewing these mattresses below, I recommend a hybrid mattress that has a spring coil layer for firmness, topped with some type of foam (memory, gel) to provide you with that soft plush feeling.

The spring coils provide all the firm support your spine needs, but the softer layer on top will conform more with your body allowing your spine to remain straight no matter what position you sleep in.

Hybrid mattresses are also good if you are sharing your bed with a partner, as the combination of pocket coils (individually wrapped coils) and memory foam ensures that movement is contained only to your side of your bed, so even if your partner tosses and turns, you won’t feel it.

If you are still not sure, then choose a mattress that comes with a trial period so you can return it.  But remember to keep the packaging as you’ll need it if you decide to send it back.

What is the best price for a mattress?

A rich person might think that $10,000 is a good deal, a poor person might think $200 is too much.

So what is the best price for a mattress?

I have done a lot of research, and I can confirm that you can get a good quality mattress for a very reasonable price.

This is due to more and more companies selling online, so they don’t have to worry about the overhead costs that come with having a brick and mortar shop, and they can reach more customers maximizing their client base.

This plus healthy competition means lower prices for all of us looking for a bargain.

Therefore it is possible to get a good quality mattress under $1,000, in fact I would say between $200 and $600.

Anything lower than $200 and you are looking at air mattresses.

Air mattresses have come a long way though, and might just be what you are looking for, so see my review here.

Are cheap mattresses worth it?

In my opinion, short of camping or having a strict budget while in college, I would say that a cheap mattress is not worth it.

You can probably get away with it when you are young, but as we get older, lack of exercise, sitting at our desks all day long, unhealthy bodies and lifestyles, all contribute to us no longer having a body that can just handle everything we throw at it.

At this point you need to consider how much a bad night’s sleep is costing you in terms of feeling tired, sore and grumpy the next day.

You spend about a third of your life sleeping, so it’s worth investing in a good mattress that is good for your body, neck, back, etc.

You only have one body after all, best take care of it.

Are expensive mattresses worth it?

Let’s be honest, there are some EXPENSIVE mattresses to buy, like EXPENSIVE yo! And I mean $60,000+.

In fact, there is a floating bed you can buy for $1.6million.  It uses magnets to stay in the air.

But unless you are Jeff Bezos and a billionaire, you’re probably not considering paying $50,000+ for a mattress.

No, the rest of us probably would like to stick to a budget under $1,000 for a Queen size mattress. Otherwise I suspect you would not be searching for “best price mattress” on the internet.

So the question then is, is a mattress that costs more than $1,000 worth it?

Only you can really weigh up how much money you are willing to spend on your physical comfort, but I will say this.

I have slept in some nice hotels in my life, I have also slept in some awful beds. I recently spent a few wonderful nights in a Hilton in China, and that mattress was amazing.

That mattress is definitely worth it’s price tag of $2,000+.

Having said that, since I’m not that rich, I would be very reluctant to spend that much money on a mattress unless I won the lottery.

So the short answer is, YES, expensive mattresses are worth it if you have the money.

Is it better to sleep on a hard or soft mattress?

Hard and soft is a personal preference, and people usually assume that means a soft foam mattress or a stiff box spring mattress.

I suggest you think about it this way instead.

You can have a firm mattress that provides good support with a super soft top layer, and get the best of both worlds.

Or perhaps, get a memory foam mattress for firmness, and put a soft and fluffy mattress topper on top of it.

Which mattress is better: spring or foam?

It’s a personal preference.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Spring coils provide all the firm support your spine needs, while foam will sink in beneath you.

Memory foam on the other hand will conform more with your body allowing your spine to remain straight no matter what position you sleep in.

So even if you are lying on your side, the memory foam will indent in only certain places keeping your spine straight.

Memory foam with gel is designed to keep you cool.

Wave foam is just normal foam cut with a wave pattern, as opposed to a table top like smooth layer of foam.

I recommend a hybrid mattress so you get the best of both technologies, a firm spring coil layer topped with a gel memory foam layer.

I also recommend you keep your new mattress clean, dry and hygienic by buying a mattress protector.

The Bedstory mattress is a hybrid mattress that consists of 4 different layers, 3 foam plus one layer of pocket coil springs.

The top layer is made of a gel infused memory foam to help keep you cool and contours to your body’s curves for plushness and comfort.

The next layer is a 2.5″ layer of wave foam for better airflow as well as comfort.

Then there is a thin layer of high density support foam for firmness, which also acts as a guard against any vibration from the layer of coils.

The last layer is the spring coils. There are 744 high-quality carbon steel coils all individually wrapped in pockets which minimizes movement and vibration across the mattress. The coils around the edges are firmer than the inner coils for better edge support so the mattress edge does not collapse over time as you sit or lie on it.

I have too often slept on a mattress where the spot where someone would sit down was permanently indented and weak.

Thanks to the CertiPUR-US certification, the foam is made without any harmful chemicals.

It also comes with a 10 year limited warranty and a lifetime after-sale service.

Unlike most mattress companies these days, this company has been operating for over 36 years, so it’s not one of those flash new companies that have been setup just to sell mattresses made cheaply in China on the internet for a handsome profit.

They have been around long enough to know what their customers want and how to look after their customers.

The spring coil layer is made from heavy gauge, 8-inch coils, which are then topped with transition foam, with the gel memory foam layer on top of that. The coils are then further encased with foam on the sides, preventing coils bumping against another and creating unnecessary movement in the mattress. This means that when one person rolls over, the other person is less likely to feel it as the movement in the coils remains localized.

In spite of the spring coils, the mattress comes compressed and rolled like a normal foam mattress.

Backed by a 10-year warranty against manufacturer defects.
