And because they are delicate, washing them requires more time and effort. Having said that, as long as you take care of your silk bed sheets, they will actually last a long time, up to 15 years.

Silk is also hypoallergenic, and has some antibacterial properties, which means it is naturally resistant to bed mites or other microorganisms you might usually find in your bedding, increasing the longevity of your bedding.
There are some reports of the 18 kinds of amino acids that are beneficial to your skin and anti-aging, but I would take that with a grain of salt. Sleeping on a silk pillow isn’t going to magically remove your wrinkles and make you look younger.

What Is Momme In Silk Fabric?
Momme – pronounced like the word noun, but with an m, so moum.
Momme (mm) is a unit used to measure the density of fabric.
Thread count is the amount of threads in a square inch, the more threads per square inch, the thicker the fabric will be, and the higher the momme.
A 19 momme silk bed sheet often has a thread count of 400, whereas a 25 momme silk bed sheet goes up to 750 thread count. That makes 25 momme much thicker than 19 momme.
The thinner the silk, the more delicate it is and more likely to tear or rip.
The thicker the silk (25 momme), the less delicate it is, so it is more durable and will last longer.
Higher thread count also creates a smoother, softer texture, as anyone who’s ever slept under 600+ Egyptian cotton sheets can attest.
What Is The Best Momme Weight Of Silk Bedding?
For bedding, never go below 19 momme, and if you can afford it, buy 22 or 25 momme silk bed sheets, it will cost more but last longer.
What is Mulberry Silk?
Mulberry silk is very simply silk produced by silkworms who were fed mulberry leaves.
Is Silk Ethical?
Silkworms spin themselves into a silk cocoon, which is then used to create silk threads, which in turn is spun into fabric.
Very few people realise that there is a small living creature inside the cocoon, half way in the process of becoming a moth.
This creature (the pupa) is killed by steaming or boiling before you can start processing the silk cocoon.
In other words, there is no such thing as cruelty free silk. A living creature died to make your silk bed sheets.
Are Silk Bed Sheets Hot?
No. Silk is a cool fabric that doesn’t hold on to heat like wool or polyester does.
Can You Wash Silk Sheets?
For all silk products, whether that’s bedding or clothing, you should only ever hand wash it, or use the hand wash setting on your machine. Most washing machines have a Silk/Wool setting, that’s what I use for my silk products.
Due to the delicate nature of silk, you should wash it gently and slowly in lukewarm water, your washing machine’s Silk/Wool setting will take care of this.
Use a special Silk detergent instead of your usual laundry detergent.
Hang to dry without direct sunlight. If you are careful, you can try to use your tumble dryer, but use the cool setting, it should be a gentle cycle, and don’t do it for long.
In fact, I personally wouldn’t use a tumble dryer. Think about it this way, considering how much you’ve paid for your silk bedding, why risk it? Treat it gently and carefully so your purchase can last as long as possible.
Iron when slightly damp using a cool setting, and only iron on the inside/wrong side of your bedding.
